Update from Headquarters
To all of our RID members, the Deaf community, and the general interpreting community:
The RID Headquarters Staff wish to affirm to all of you that we honor and respect the decisions made by our Board of Directors. We stand with them in solidarity. Like you, we are experiencing a range of emotions as we navigate this historic moment.
We join the Board in calling out and naming the -isms that have long festered within our organization. We are committed to doing the necessary anti-audism and anti-racism work within ourselves and within the structure of the organization’s headquarters. We will likewise continue to support the Board of Directors, our volunteer leadership, committees, councils, task forces and members during their own anti-racism and anti-audism work.
While we acknowledge the importance of the work before us, we also wish to share our excitement! We will soon announce the hiring of RID’s new CEO. And we are looking forward to hosting our biennial conference, “Re-Orienting”, starting July 8th. Workshops will be centered on the issues of audism, racism, and oppression.
We also want to assure you that our daily operational work here at Headquarters continues. We are working on an update for the membership concerning what comes next in terms of special elections and actions surrounding the recent board vacancies. Please watch for more updates going forward.
In solidarity,
RID Headquarters Staff
